Meg Lui - "Dreams" (The Cranberries) - featuring Sufjan Stevens (2026)

This one really blew me away. I almost didn't even listen to it when it came through my feeds. The bass line is so intricate and expressive and adventurous. It was played by David Lizmi. I'd love to know how they all decided the bass should be like this.

There's a chunk near the end that sounded to me like non stop sixteenth notes. It was hard for me to tell if this was the bass, a synth, or something else that happened to be pulsing in the background. There's a cool way to get this effect with a delay pedal, but I figured I'd take a crack at seeing how clean I could get it it.

Probably no surprise that I wish more bands would take more chances like this with their bass parts. Are there others I'm missing? One that comes to mind is this song by Boygenius:
